Orion is arguably the most recognizable and visually stunning constellation visible in the winter sky. For many, it serves as the ultimate winter landmark, rising in the southeast as soon as the sun sets. The most relaxing way to locate Orion is to look for his famous Belt, a neat, straight row of three bright stars. Surrounding these belt stars are four bright corner stars: the reddish supergiant Betelgeuse marks the hunter’s shoulder, while the bright blue-white Rigel forms his foot. Once this hourglass shape is locked into view, it becomes incredibly easy to trace the rest of his figure.
